| So, doing inventory today at the Sternberg, I found a T-rex egg hatch keychain. One that roars when I open it, and it squirms around and chomps it's jaws.
Is it a bad thing that I thought of my new kitten, Zoot, when I looked at it?
| Procrastination and lazyness are my middle names.
Not really, but it HAS been forever.
Anyhows, I'm moving into my own place tomorrow, and I'm REALLY excited. It's gonna be great. I'm working at the Sternberg Museum of Natural History now as a Student Manager...it's some great stuff. Right now I'm in charge of the gift shop and I even have my own key to the place. Fun fun ^.^
My first summer away from home sure is gonna be an interesting one. I'm learning how to function on my own, as an independent entity, away from the college's dorm cradle. It's going to be a challenge, paying my own bills, rent, and whatnot, but I think I can handle this. Currently my friends are helping me get moved in, while I'm stealing some e-time at work. It's quiet...hardly anybody comes to the museum on a Wednesday.
I managed to misplace my cell phone, and it's been gone for two weeks. I'm looking up and down for that bugger and it's not anywhere to be found...I'll be depressed if I have to get a new one. I had some great pics on that thing, plus my entire phone book is on it. Gah. I really need to find that thing.
Anyways, I'd better make it look like I'm doing something vaguely important, so I'll be off now. I hope everyone's having a spiffy summer so far.
| WOW I haven't written in forever.
Okay, quick update. The Vagina Monologues went GREAT, and people are still bitching about it in the papers to this day. God I love the editorial section.
We get outta this madhouse May 12th! WOOO! Yay summer! I can't wait. My first year of college has gone by so fast...I can't even believe it.
I MIGHT get a job out at Hastings. I'm gonna find out today if I get an interview...hopefully. They said they weren't gonna call anyone for 2 weeks, but I'd like to know right away. After all, if I'm going to have an apartment, I'm gonna be needing money. I'd be moving in with three other girls....gah. One's Lindsay, the friend of mine here in town that took me in at the beginning of the year, another is Alicia, someone I've met this year, and someone named Crystal who I met yesterday while we were looking at the place. Convenient, eh?
Anyways, that's all from me for now....just an update, and something to keep my hands busy while World of Warcraft is down...*sob*
| I've never been scared for an opening night before.
I am now.
Letters upon letters kept pouring in about The Vagina Monologues, and more and more people are asking how to get tickets. TONS of people are damning this show, even calling the school and asking what businesses are sponsoring the show so they can boycott their stores. The eyes of Hays are on Felten-Start Theatre tonight. It's kinda scary.
I'm very nervous.
I hope you guys at Central are having a GREAT one-act opening night right now!
Gotta go, my call is in 40 minutes.
| Vagina Monologues happen to be on the very same days as the One Acts...2nd, 3rd, & 4th of March. Sorry guys, I hope you ROCK that stage hardcore.
As for the Vagina Monologues....it's amazing how much trouble ONE word in a title can cause a show. Just because the show has the title that it does, we've got people all over Hays damning the show as a "mockery of women," and a "lesbian pornographic production" that needs to be "cancelled by FHSU."
Actual quotes from letters written to the school and to the Hays Daily News. The first one came from a man who read ONE anti-Vagina Monologues site and thought he knew it all, and wrote in, citing lines like, "if it was rape, it was good rape," that aren't even in the show at ALL. The second letter was from a woman who kept citing the whole "lesbians having sex" scenes that weren't there at all...and kept citing...and kept citing. I think she has other issues to work out in her mind before she worries about what's appearing on a local stage. Heh.
Let it be known that the Vagina Monologues are a COLLECTION OF MEMOIRS, not an actual play. No scenes, really. Plus, it's simply showing how denigrated women are in society today, starting with the very first scene, basically saying that the word "vagina" itself has become almost taboo, and now has tons of lowdown nicknames.
Apparently though, Smalltown USA, otherwise known as Hays, can't really handle that. Oh wells. There is ONE great side effect to all this negative publicity.
Publicity is still publicity. People are curious. And they'll see the show just to find out what all the fuss is about. Hehe. I expect a full house two of the three nights. Not hard since it seats just as much people (maybe a bit less) as South's auditorium. And then those damning the show will eat their words.
I'll be performing "My Vagina Was My Village," about a young woman who was raped in the Middle East as a systematic tactic of war, one of many. Lesbian porno? I think not. Mine isn't the only one about respecting women and being against battery.
Let them see for themselves, and maybe next time something like this comes to town, they'll do their research, eh?
